The band was formed in the early 1970s and managed their international breakthrough in 1974 with a victory at the Euro Vision Song Contest in the English seaside resort of Brighton, entitled Waterloo. Characteristic of the group were the unusual at this time colored-pop costumes, carrying the musicians during their performances and in music videos. Above all, the mid-1970s, in which hits like SOS, Mamma Mia, Fernando and Dancing Queen emerged, ABBA was because of their complex and sophisticated music production known as a co-founder of a new international pop music.

In 1982 the band split up after ten years of existence.
