Atreyu

Atreyu is an American metal-core band founded in 1998. The name is from one of the main characters in the novel The Neverending Story.

Singer Alex Varkatzas, drummer Brandon Saller and guitarist Dan Jacobs formed the band in Orange County in California under the name  "Retribution." With "Vision" in 1998, the band released their first demo under the band name Atreyu. Three years later, bassist Chris Thomson replaced the former bass player Brian O'Donnell and Travis Miguel joined the band. In 2001 they released an EP called "Fractures In Facade Of Your Porcelain Beauty", where drummer Brandon Saller sang on for the first time.

In 2002, Atreyu signed a contract with the label Victory Records, They released in June 2002, the debut album "Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses". Their first US-wide tour followed and it was also one of the first appearances in Europe. In 2004 Atreyu played at the Ozzfest, published in February 2004, a limited edition of 25,000 pieces of "Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses" with DVD and finally in June, the second album, "The Curse" came out. Bassist Chris Thomson decided before the recording of "The Curse" to leave the band in friendship, as he cared more about his family and also continued his education in the teaching profession. Chris was quickly replaced by a longtime friend of the band, Marc McKnight.

In 2005 they went on the "Thick as Thieves" Tour, which was also the first world tour of the band and led by countries such as Australia and Japan. After their tour in June 2005, Atreyu played at the Warped Tour. On  March 23 2006 they released the album "A Death-Grip On Yesterday". A few months later, the band split from their longtime label Victory Records and moved to Hollywood Records.

On  October 23 2009, their studio album  "Congregation of the Damned" was released.
