Aerosmith
is an American rock band that was founded in 1969. Worldwide,
Aerosmith sold over
150 million records.
The were first consistently influenced by the blues. The band secured
a record deal with Columbia Records after some gigs in clubs . Their
first album, Aerosmith - a pure blues album - was released in 1973 and
reached # 166 of the Billboard charts. Greater success came only with
the album Toys in the Attic in 1975, which songs like Sweet Emotion,
Big Ten Inch Record , and Walk this Way included. With Toys in the
Attic they had finally found their typical style, even if the
Blues and Rock 'n' roll influences remained.
Aerosmith rose again to the top of international charts. But after
success came the use of drugs. This gave Tyler and Perry, their
nicknames "The Toxic Twins." In 1977 they went again in the
charts with Draw the Line. But as the late 1970s approached, the
disputes in the band grew, Joe Perry and Brad Whitford left
Aerosmith and they started their own projects ("The Joe Perry
Project, and Whitford-St.Holmes "). Aerosmith picked up as
a replacement Jimmy Crespo (for Joe Perry) and Rick Dufay (for Brad
Witford), and played the two albums, A Night in the Ruts (1979) and
Rock in a Hard Place (1982) that couldn't however, match the quality
and success of earlier days. The great age of Aerosmith seemed over.
Only when Perry and Whitford returned to the band, and Steven Tyler
was admitted to a drug clinic, they found their way back on track.
Done with Mirrors on the new Geffen label showed Aerosmith in 1985
with increased playing mood, but was still not a great success,
because no one knew that Aerosmith were reunited. In 1986 Run-D.M.C
made a cover version of the hit Walk This Way with Aerosmith,
and with support of producer Bruce Fairbairn and songwriter Desmond
Child. Walk this Way put them back into the public and they had
big plans for the coming year 1987. Shortly afterwards came the single
"Dude (Looks Like a Lady)". The new album was called
Permanent Vacation, and was a great success worldwide. Other singles
were released in 1987 and 1988 until the band settled back into the
studio. The follow-up album was released in 1989 and caused the
band with songs like Love in an Elevator and Janie's Got a Gun back
into the leading of the charts. Get a Grip (1993), Nine Lives
(1997) - back to the old Columbia label - and Just Push Play (2001)
resulted in the continued success story of the band. Published in
2004, Aerosmith Honkin 'on Bobo is their most recent studio album,
which took the group back to their musical roots.
Aerosmith became part of the Rock and Roll of Fame Hall in 2001, and
won the 2002 "MTV Icon" award, where they were honored by
countless musicians, for which they have been a role model. With I Do
not Want to Miss a Thing, the soundtrack to the movie Armageddon, they
succeeded in 1998 as the only band from the album to reach no
1 in the U.S. Billboard charts.
On November 6 2009 reported the newspaper Las Vegas Sun on their
website, that Steven Tyler, according to guitarist Joe Perry, left
Aerosmith. A day later, Steven Tyler announced at an
impromptu performance of his bandmate Joe Perry in New York that he
will not leave Aerosmith.
