   Albert Lee

Albert Lee (born December 21, 1943 in Leominster, Herefordshire) is a British guitarist. He lives in California, United States.

In the early 1960s, Lee played in various British bands in Germany. In 1963 he joined, in conjunction with Berry Jenkins, the German rock singer Mike Warner and his group The Echo Letters. In England he played with Neil Christian and Others. In 1964 he joined again to Mike Warner, this time in the group "The Fender". He then joined Chris Farlowe & The Thunderbirds, "where he remained for four years. Then he played with the bands "Country Fever" and "Heads Hands & Feet", the latter produced three albums 1971-1973 and meant for Lee breakthrough to international fame for his exceptionally fast and precise guitar playing. Lee also played on Jon Lord's solo album Gemini Suite (1971).

1973, Lee participated in the recording of the London Sessions by Jerry Lee Lewis. Also attending were the guitarist Alvin Lee of Ten Years After and Rory Gallagher.
The same year Albert Lee began occasionally to appear with the Crickets, the former band of Buddy Holly. In 1974, their album Long Way From Lubbock came out.

Lee remained for some time in Los Angeles, where he recorded with Don Everly the album Sunset Towers. In late 1974 and early 1975, Lee went with Joe Cocker in North America, Australia and New Zealand on tour. In 1976 he went to the "Hot Band" by Emmylou Harris. With Lee on board -Harris had their greatest successes on Luxury Liner or C'est la vie. During and after this time Lee was in five consecutive years by the prestigious magazine "Guitar Player"  voted the best country guitarist.

Lee's first solo album "Hiding" appeared in 1979. Meanwhile he played in  Eric Clapton's band, where he was five years, including on the live album Just One Night.

In 1982, the second solo album "Albert" Lee came out.
Two other groups in which Albert Lee appeared occasionally, were Sterling Balls "The Biff Baby All-Stars" and Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings. On  November 29 2002 Albert Lee took part in the memorial concert for George Harrison, held at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Lee is friends with Sterling Ball, owner of the Ernie Ball Incorporation, the guitars and strings manufactures. The range of the company include an Albert Lee Signature guitar.

A special feature is the play of Lee's String-Bender Telecaster. With this in 1965 by Gene Parsons and Clarence White of the Byrds designed mechanism it is possible to play pedal steel licks on the guitar, which Lee has developed to perfection. Except for his extraordinary guitar playing Lee is known for his songs, his piano playing and his songwriting.
