Alice
in Chains is an American alternative rock band from Seattle, Washington.
The group is next to Nirvana, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam one of the
best known and most successful representatives of the genre and had
its most notable successes in the first half of the 1990s.
In contrast to other
members of the grunge movement, the music of Alice in Chains is more
influenced by heavy metal than punk or the psychedelic rock. Typical
of many songs is the two-part vocals of singer Layne Staley and guitarist
Jerry Cantrell, who became the hallmark of the band.Striking are also
the sometimes depressed acting texts that seem to have an
insight into the mood of singer Staley grant, but were
to a large extent not written by him,
but often by Jerry Cantrell.
