Nickelback

Nickelback

Nickelback is a rock band from Hanna, Alberta in Canada, which was formed in 1995. Band members are Chad Kroeger, Mike Kroeger, Ryan Peake and Daniel Adair.

The band name was created when Mike Kroeger who was working at Starbucks at the time, returned change to the costumers. Since this was usually always 5 cents, he said, "Here's your nickel back". His brother, Chad heard the beat and Nickelback was chosen as the Band's name.

In 1996, the EP "Hesher" was released in Canada, which only sold 5,000 copies at the time, but is now very rare and therefore has a very high value. Shortly thereafter, they released their  first album named "Curb". But just like "Hesher", it only had regional success.

In 2000 they came out with the album "The State" and gained a national breakthrough. This record has received numerous Canadian music awards and reached gold status there also. The single "Leader of Men" was the first song what reached Europe, but was not the big breakthrough. Roadrunner Records took the four musicians under contract, which was very unusual because the label is better known for metal bands.

Now there was a lot more time for another album, because making "The State", the four Canadians were, according to Ryan Peake, under time pressure. In 2001 they had their third album "Silver Side Up" out, and Nickelback finally came to their international breakthrough. In particular, the single "How You Remind Me" was in several charts in the Top Ten. Too Bad The successor could also carry on from these successes. Awareness levels soared, which meant that the planned European tour was moved to bigger venues. Because of their success, their debut album, "Curb" was re-published.

Since March 4 2005, Nickelback has a new drummer named Daniel Adair, who had played before with 3 Doors Down.

The fifth album by the band, which is titled "All the Right Reasons", was released in October 2005. It was a huge hit in the U.S. and was over 100 weeks in the top 30, in Canada, the United States, and New Zealand. The album managed to No. 1 in Australia, and in the World Charts for several weeks at number 2.

On September 4 2008 Roadrunner Records announced a new single and album from Nickelback. The first single was called "Gotta Be Somebody". The new album, called "Dark Horse", was published on November 14 2008, and was produced by Mutt Lange.

As always, frontman Chad Kroeger's gritty voice remains Nickelback's calling card, and his emotive singing carries every tune, most notably the nostalgic "Photograph" and "Far Away," a tender, echo-laden ballad. Kroger has never met a guitar effect that he didn't ...

"How You Remind Me" was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Record Of The Year. Nickelback are arguably the preeminent bastard children of '90s hard rock. On the Canadian band's sophomore effort, the songs will surely appeal to heavy rockers ...
