| The Police is an English New Wave band from the late 1970s
and early 1980s. They were founded in 1977, broke up in 1986, and
reunited in 2007. Together with the "Talking Heads" The Police
is the most successful rock band of the post-punk and New Wave movement.
Initially inspired by reggae and ska, the trio later experimented with
elements of world music and jazz.
Four out of five studio albums went to # 1 on the British album charts, as successful were the singles from "Message in a Bottle" (1979), "Walking On The Moon " (1979), " do not Stand Close To Me" (1980), "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic " (1981) and "Every Breath You Take" (1983).
