Tool is an American progressive metal, and
alternative metal band from Los Angeles. Current members are vocalist
Maynard James Keenan, guitarist Adam Jones, bassist Justin Chancellor and
drummer Danny Carey.
Tool was founded in 1990 and performed in the beginning together with
the band "Rage Against the Machine". They became well known
through the Lollapalooza tour in 1993. The music video for "Stinkfist"
and "Prison Sex" from the album Ænima and Undertow, and "Schism"and"Parabola"from
the album Lateralus were aired on music channels such as MTV, but just in
part, and heavily censored. Because the title of the song "Stinkfist"
was felt to offensive the video ran on MTV under the name
"Track # 1" . Nevertheless, the band received a Grammy for the
songs "Ænema" and "Schism" from the album Ænima
Lateralus for Best Metal Performance ".
AENIMA was nominated for a 1997 Grammy
Award for Best Recording Package. "Aenima" won the 1998 Grammy
Award for Best Metal Performance. On its second full-length album, this

focused intensity. Rather than ...

Award for Best Metal Performance. Approaching Tool's LATERALUS with a
casual ear would be a careless endeavor, to say the least. The sheer
magnitude of the musical and emotional textures is as heady as it is ...
In retrospect, Opiate seems a little
haphazard, but it's possible to hear the seeds of Tool's bleak, cerebral
metal in such cuts as "Sweat" and "Opiate." The two
live tracks, "Cold and Ugly" and "Jerk-Off," don't
sound out of place, ...
Marked by lead singer Maynard's melodic
emoting and a set of powerful yet ethereal rolling guitars that transform
the genre's defining instrumental aggression into an aural display of
frayed feelers and raw nerves, alternative metal band Tool has cultivated
a ...
Tool's vocalist Maynard James Keenan
returned after a five-year legal battle and a stint with his other band, A
Perfect Circle, with 2001's complex, challenging LATERALUS. The Los
Angeles nu-metal pioneers appeared at the top of their form, and this ...
