Guitar pro is a guitar tablature software that visually shows you which notes (in tab form) as it plays the sounds. Although it plays the sound in a sort of midi format (that is to say, it doesn't sound awesome), it still serves the purpose. The fact that you can hear the pitch and pattern, allows you to learn very quickly.

We noticed this software because we started getting hits for people seaching for guitar pro. Our name is Pro Guitar (dot com) and we kept getting requests about this 'guitar pro' software. We didn't know what people were talking about because we couldn't find anything in the search engines. But then we came across it and it was awesome. Since we concluded it was of great advantage to ALL guitarists, we decided to do sort of a 'best of guitar and recording software' site. They are not affiliated with us in any way but their software is so good, we freely promote it.
So, now to the other goodies. We have tried many software packages. It would be a waste of time to send you on a 'wild goose chase' for the best stuff. That is why we decided to put ONLY THE SOFTWARE THAT WE USE. That is to say, these music software packages are useful enough that we use them regularly. The list is not exhaustive. There are other packages that we use 'sometimes' but these are the ones we find essential.

Audio Editors, Recorders and Composers

CDDBs (Compact Disk Data Base) are programs which use the on-line databases of music CDs that are located on the internet. Usually they have a built in CD player and you can also download music, lyrics, etc.

Miscellaneous Audio Software
| Audiograbber Audiograbber is a cd ripper that 'grabs' digital audio from CDs. It copies the audio digitally - not through the soundcard - which enables you to make perfect copies of the originals. It can even perform a test to see that the copies really are perfect. Audiograbber can also automatically normalize the music, delete silence from the start and/or end of tracks, and send them to L3enc or Fraunhofer acm codec for automatic creation of MP3's. This is also the only CD-Ripper that can grab audio through both ASPI and MSCDEX calls. |
Real Player Real Player is an audio streaming application that allows you to tune into many radio stations. It is a very good program however, the company seems bent on monetizing customers and it shows. The way the site tries to lead you into the pay version even after you pick the free version is a bit annoying. Also, the constant updating of the program makes your pay version obsolete pretty quickly. Further to this, they have recently been accused of having their software send information from the users computer. |
