Jimmy Eat World is an American band from Mesa, Arizona.
Jimmy Eat World was founded in 1993 by singer / guitarist Jim Adkins,
drummer Zach Lind, guitarist Tom Linton, and bassist Mitch Porter in Mesa,
Arizona. The band name comes from a drawing that Tom's younger brother,
Ed, at the age of eight years painted. As a result of a dispute with his
slightly overweight brother Jim, he called the picture Jimmy Eat World, to
express his brother was so fat that he could eat the whole world. When Tom
Linton saw the picture, he was of the (grammatically incorrect) lettering
so impressed that he proposed to name the band after that.
