Madonna was with hits such as Like a Virgin (1984), Vogue (1990) and Hung Up (2005) on the top of the charts. According to RIAA, IFPI, Guinness World Records Madonna has sold more than 380 million records,  that makes Madonna to the most commercially successful singer in the world. Also, according to the edition of the Guinness Book of World Records 2010, Madonna is with 75 million albums sold in the U.S. and more than 125 million albums sold in other countries, the top selling artist of all time.

In addition to nine Grammy awards (including 1998 for Ray of Light), she also received a Golden Globe (1997 for her performance in the musical film Evita). She also wrote several children's books (The English Roses, 2003) and in 2008 became part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
