Martin Guitars for sale online - Martin Acoustic Guitar and Classical
C. F. Martin was not the first guitar maker in America. Colonial Williamsburg had one, an six others have been documented earlier than Martin. However, none of was as influential. In fact no other nineteenth-century American guitar maker was influential but C. F. Martin. ( Orville Gibson's work in the 1890s would qualify him as a nineteenth-century maker, but his influence would not be fully realized until the twentieth century.) The numerous Martin guitars from the 1800s that survive today in good playing condition testify to the quality of Martin's craftsmanship and design. Although the Lyon and Healy company sold many more guitars than Martin in the 1800s, there are probably more Martins still around today than Washburns (Lyon and Healy's brand) and all other nineteenth-century brands combined.
