More Paul Reed Guitars and Accessories
When
Smith produced one
guitar/month before,
he had to expand
in the 1980s with increasing popularity. Today PRS Guitars
are
based in Stevensville (Maryland, USA) and employs approximately 200 people.
Among them was the former Gibson president Ted McCarty, who died in 2001. At
his former workplace, he
was one of the people who were
responsible with
innovative ideas in the success of the company.
His own models McCarty Hollow Body (later developed into the models
Hollowbody I Hollowbody II Hollowbody Spruce), McCarty and McCarty Soapbar
are an integral part of the PRS history.
Very concise for the guitars by PRS, are the shapes of the ceiling of the
guitars. The material is usually maple with a beautiful grain, a reason for
the high prices of the products. Another is the use of exotic materials such
as abalone, paua, mother of pearl, etc.. Which are used as decoration and
inlays. Particularly well known are the fret markers in the form of birds,
which are considered another hallmark of PRS.
Exception to the exclusivity are the products made in Korea SE series dar.
These forms of PRS are produced in a simple manner (not vaulted ceiling and
specially milled, less beautiful woods, hiding coatings, simpler electronics
and hardware, etc.).
