| Opeth is a metal band from
Stockholm, Sweden. They were founded in 1990. Their music
style moves between death metal, progressive metal and progressive rock,
and on their later albums increasingly absorbs influences of jazz.
The music style changes within the complex structured pieces from jazz,
brutal and quiet, melancholic ballad-like passages with echoes. This
contrast is reflected in the specific manner of singer Mikael Åkerfeldt,
which varies between his warm, clear singing voice and a deep growling
noise. The titles often have a length of ten minutes or more.
