Sir James Paul McCartney, (born June 18 1942 in Liverpool) is an English
musician, singer-songwriter and composer. He was known worldwide as the
singer and bassist of the Beatles, for which he wrote together with John
Lennon most tracks. The composers partnership Lennon / McCartney is one of
the largest and most successful in the history of pop music. After the
Beatles McCartney launched a successful solo career and founded with his
wife Linda the band Wings. Since the 1980s, he worked exclusively as a
solo artist and is also dedicated to new musical areas such as electronic
and classical music.
McCartney is now considered the most successful songwriter in the
history of pop music. His play Yesterday is regarded as the most played
pop song of all time. Since the 1970s, McCartney, who is a vegetarian, is
committed to the rights of animals.
McCartney's first solo album with the simple title McCartney, which he
had recorded parallel to work with the Beatles, in which McCartney
completely alone rehearsed earned bad reviews. But was still commercially
successful.
With the separation of the Beatles, it was now McCartney, who
fell into a deep depression, he retired with his new family, for several
months back to a farm in Scotland, where he was temporarily an alcoholic
and increasingly neglected himself until his wife Linda McCartney
encouraged him to to record new music together.
The following year the first single, Another Day / Oh Woman Oh
Why, and the album Ram came out. Also this came off badly in the
criticism, but sold well.
