Sir James Paul McCartney, (born June 18 1942 in Liverpool) is an English
musician, singer-songwriter and composer. He was known worldwide as the
singer and bassist of the Beatles, for which he wrote together with John
Lennon most tracks. The composers partnership Lennon / McCartney is one of
the largest and most successful in the history of pop music. After the
Beatles McCartney launched a successful solo career and founded with his
wife Linda the band Wings. Since the 1980s, he worked exclusively as a
solo artist and is also dedicated to new musical areas such as electronic
and classical music.
McCartney is now considered the most successful songwriter in the history of pop music. His play Yesterday is regarded as the most played pop song of all time. Since the 1970s, McCartney, who is a vegetarian, is committed to the rights of animals. In 2003 he was awarded by the University of Sussex, an honorary doctorate degrees. In 2008 he was awarded by the Yale University an honorary doctorate. In 2008 he won in Liverpool as part of the MTV Europe Music Awards honor the price MTV Ultimate Legend Award. In 2010 he was awarded the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song at the Library of Congress In 2010 he received the Kennedy Center Award for lifelong achievements in the performing arts.
