Profile: For a group that lasted less then three years, the Sex Pistols
had an amazing influence. They shocked audiences, but showed that anyone
could play in a rock band and many groups followed their example.
The Sex Pistols are one of the great British punk bands of the second
half of the 1970s. The members of the band were John "Johnny
Rotten" Lydon, Steve Jones, Paul Cook, and Glen Matlock (who was
subsidized by Sid Vicious in 1977-1978). Other important people in the
vicinity of the Sex Pistols were their manager Malcolm McLaren, who claims
that he created the band and made them famous. Designer Vivienne Westwood,
the director Julian Temple, who made three movies about the band, and the
graphic artist Jamie Reid.
