Successful Rehearsal
For rehearsals you need to find a room that is
large enough to hold all your equipment and where you will not disturb other
people. You may be able to rent a room in a community centre or recording
studio. Allow plenty of rehearsal time to prepare for a performance.
Making the most of rehearsal
-
Be prepared to work with a leader and accept
his or her decisions.
-
Learn your own part beforehand.
-
Turn up on time and be available for the
length of the rehearsal.
-
Play on even if you make a mistake, so as not
to interrupt the song.
-
Get used to a microphone, if you sing, the micro
must stay close to your mouth as you move your head.
-
Stand where you can see and hear each other
playing. You should work as a team, listening to each other and exchanging
ideas.
-
Practice between rehearsals. Try an idea for
a song and see what the band thinks next time.
Building up a repertoire
You need about 20-30 songs in your repertoire
(the songs you perform). Let all the band members try writing them and vary the
styles so as not to be boring. You can also play your own versions of other
people's songs. Avoid on/stage debate by deciding your choice and order of songs
before a performance.
