THE STROKES CDs Imports - Mp3s - Box Sets - DVD Music Video
Like so many underground NYC rock bands, the Strokes first generated publicity in the UK, though it didn't take long for their no-frills sound to catch on at home. Paying homage to their influences, the group purveys a mix of Velvet Underground/New York Dolls proto-punk and Pavement-like lo-fi slacker rock. The Strokes' highly anticipated first album made it onto plenty of year-end Top Ten lists despite the inevitable backlash against the hype machine that helped put their album on the charts. Sure, they hang around with models and movie stars, isn't that what rock stars are supposed to do?
In 2001 The Strokes emerged onto the music scene, picked it up by the scruff of the neck and gave it a much needed shaking down. Exploding onto the charts and into the hearts of teenage girls everywhere, the pretty-boy rock band from New York City didn't take long to crossover to a more mainstream audience. The band have proved they have more depth to them than just cool haircuts, good bone structure and thrift store chic however, producing some timeless indie-rock classics such as "New York City Cops," "Someday," and "Last Nite." NEW YORK STORIES takes a look at the men behind the music, charters their unassailable rise, and offers some fascinating insights into the band. No original music by The Strokes is included on this release.
